JETHRO Tull’s frontman, Ian Anderson, must be one of the most highly respected acoustic musicians around. The only original member of the legend-ary band, Jethro Tull, one of the most successful bands of the early 1970s, Ian remains synonymous with the band’s identity.
The band were at the top of the tree with songs such as Living in the Past, Life is a Long Song and Sweet Dream, which are considered classics today.
After 40 years of leading Tull, Ian Anderson is setting out on tour in September, but with a band consisting of German guitar virtuoso Florian Opahle, pianist and accordionist John O’Hara, bassist David Goodier, drummer Mark Mondsir, and also promises some special guests.
He last played in Salisbury in April last year, with Jethro Tull, and the new tour sees visits to many of the venues visited on that tour.
“Call me an old cynic if you like, but it’s about retaining a sense of humour and a sense of relevance. Salisbury is a nice town and I like playing in good venues. In a world of dwindling places of good venues, it is good to go back to the same places,” says Ian.
Ian will play Tull acoustic classics such as Aqualung, as well as other specially re-arranged rock material and some new material specially written for this tour.
Drawing on folk, classical, rock and jazz music styles, many elements of music culture blend in Ian Anderson’s music.
The singer/flautist, who lives on a farm in north Wiltshire, was awarded an MBE in 2008 for his services to music.
Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson appears at Salisbury City Hall on Thursday, September 24. Tickets are available from the box office on 01722 434 434.
