TAKING the demanding role of Alice is 14 year old Hannah Bishop. Hannah, a pupil at St Edmund’s School in Salisbury is not fazed: “I think it is brilliant.

There is so much you can do with the role, it is so interesting.”

Ellie Webber is the Dormouse.

“It is all action going on around you, sometimes it is very hard not to laugh as the language is so funny.”

Kamilla Yates is the caterpillar: “In the book I am portrayed as a wise character but we have added a bit of anger to the role.

I am a caterpillar with attitude.”

To learn to smile like the Cheshire Cat, thirteen-year-old Monaya Abel stood in front of a mirror. “I have done a few plays before, but nothing as crazy as this, it is such fun doing this,”

she says.

Harry Ashcroft is looking forward to wearing furry legs and a headdress with ears as the White Rabbit: “I think he is quite a nervous character and I shall think like that.”

Teddy Woolgrove is busy finalising his take on singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in an operatic style for his role as The Mad Hatter: “It is brilliant fun and is completely different from any role I have played in before.”

Zoe Ashcroft is fine-tuning her bossy voice as the Queen of Hearts, and Charlotte Lewis is also learning how to be an angry and bossy mouse.

Ann Acton directs the production with stage management by Peter Kelly who launched the youth theatre a year ago.

“This is our second and most adventurous production yet but will be great fun,” he says.

Book your tickets to see a caterpillar with attitude and all the colourful characters of Alice in Wonderland from the tourist information centre in Fish Row, Salisbury. The production opens on Wednesday and runs until Saturday.
