FOLLOWING the success of the inaugural 2011 event, the Ashley Wood Festival 2012 takes place from June 29 to July 1 at the unusual location of Ashley Wood Farm on the outskirts of Tisbury.

This promises to be a festival for all the family, with entertainment from folk and classical music to poetry and theatre.

Mercury Music Prize nominees Guillemots headline on Friday night. Other performers include new folk sensation Lady Maisery and Sioned Williams, who is principal harp with BBC Symphony Orchestra.

The environmental initiative, The Clipperton Project will have a strong presence at the festival.

In March 2012, writer Jon Bonfiglio led a multi-disciplinary international arts and science project taking emerging practitioners from nine different countries on a collaboration research expedition to the “forgotten island” of Clipperton in the Pacific Ocean.

Participants will be presenting work developed as part of the project, including several sculptures set in the grounds of Ashley Wood Farm and a new musical work by guitarist James G Wilson.

Bonfiglio and marine biologist Kathy Dunlop will present a talk about the project and their adventures, and there will be a Clipperton project information point available throughout the festival.

The festival also features local performers and theatre groups, including Scriptwriters Doo-Dah, Facing Tides, Pete Leonard and the Paper Shades.

Patron of the festival is one-time Tisbury resident, Ralph Fiennes.

Tickets start at £10 for a single daytime session, with tickets for the whole weekend at £50. There are also children’s and family tickets available as well as free camping.
