Eclectic line-up at arts centre
10:40pm Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Entertainments By Elizabeth Kemble
BBC Folk Award winner Karine Polwart and Wiltshireborn Circus Swing star Gabby Young will both be performing at the Salisbury Arts Centre this weekend.
Twice winner of Best Original Song at the BBC Folk Awards, Polwart returns to Salisbury on Friday at 8pm with her own unique blend of Folk while Young follows on Saturday at 8pm as part of her 2012 Album Tour.
Polwart will be singing from her first new album in four years, Traces, and be joined on stage by her brother, Steven (guitars and vocals) and Fair Islander Inge Thomson (accordion, percussion and vocals).
Earlier this year Gabby Young And Other Animals released their highly anticipated album, The Band Called Out For More.
The 13 track album, which is celebrated on this tour, “exudes the best bits of music hall, burlesque and 1920s flapper music with a colourful and flamboyant sound” likened to that of Bjork, Imogen Heap and Imelda May. Her live shows have also attracted comparisons with the likes of Florence & the Machine and Paloma Faith.
