Sarum Consort concert

VOCAL ensemble The Sarum Consort will be giving a concert at St Martin’s Church in Salisbury on Saturday.

The event will include a concert performance of Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, with Amy Carson and Hugh Hetherington in the title roles.

There will also be some of Purcell’s finest anthems for strings performed by Salisbury Baroque, led by Theresa Caudle, with organ by Tim Hone and a choir.

The concert will be conducted by Andrew Mackay.

Dido and Aeneas recounts the love of Dido, Queen of Carthage, for the Trojan hero Aeneas, and her despair when he abandons her.

The evenin’s entertainment will also include the anthems Rejoice in the Lord and My Beloved Spake, as well as Salisbury Baroque performing the Chaconne from Purcell’s Fairy Queen.
