HANDEL’S Messiah will be performed by a community choir after having been arranged especially for them in an innovative project in Salisbury.

The work has been arranged by Fiona Evans and will be performed by a group made up of more than 100 singers from various community choirs including Babes and Ballads, Coffee Choir and Guys no Dolls.

Evans said: “I've taken out all the runs, all the very high notes and made it more accessible for untrained voices.

“I am passionate about this work and having sung it all around the world with various professional consorts, sung the solos and conducted it, I know it incredibly well.

“I see my job when working with amateur singers as making the programme as enjoyable for the performer as it is for the audience and that means keeping the music within the capabilities of the singers in front of me.

“This gives an overall feeling of enjoyment for everybody.”

The choir will be performing part one of the work, finishing with the Hallelujah Chorus, at St Francis Church at 7.30pm on December 1.

The first half of the concert will be Christmas music, including carols with which the audience can join in.
