2013 was a year full of exciting events in the Salisbury area, and 2014 promises to be as good if not better.

So last week we asked you what events you'd be excited to see in the city this year.

The general consensus was that you'd like to see an event take place to christen the newly redeveloped Market Place, with music and arts on offer.

It's certainly an opinion that I completely agree with and I hope that Salisbury City Council is also excited by the prospect of such an event.

The city centre is the heart of the local area and an event like this could get the pulses racing for music fans from Salisbury and beyond.

Looking forward to things that we know are planned, there will be another event at Hudson's Field, as will be the case for the next few years at least, and River Bourne Community Farm near Laverstock will further announce its arrival as a venue with a series of open air events, one of them in August featuring beacons of the West Country, The Wurzels (pictured above).

Salisbury Live will continue in its two-week format for this year with a launch event taking place on Friday, January 31 at The Chapel Nightclub.

The Music Box is currently being refurbished but will open its doors on Thursday, January 30 with highly thought of indie act Dexters headlining the Open Mic Night.

The Old Ale House relaunches its live music after a two-year hiatus on January 31 with a party featuring Jet Pack Invicta (pictured below).
