A YOUTH event being planned at Salisbury Cathedral will see three local bands perform alongside Billy Lunn from The Subways.

Dubbed the “young persons’ gig of the year”, Sound and Light has been organised by local young people with Salisbury Arts Centre and The Unit.

The Unit and the Arts Centre conceived the idea of getting young people from the Salisbury area involved in organising an exciting, unique event for their age group in response to a request for more youth entertainment.

Funding was successfully secured to stage this event in the spectacular surroundings of the cathedral. A group of young people from local schools created The Unit Sound and Light Committee to serve as an organising body and they have been responsible for the bulk of the event, liaising with the cathedral, booking the artistes, and organising orders, ticket sales and poster design.

A battle of the bands contest was held in early 2013, giving young performers the opportunity to win supporting slots at the gig.

The committee selected three bands, 8:05, Vibroscope and Jenny The Alibi, who will be playing alongside headliner Billy Lunn from celebrated UK band The Subways.

Singer/songwriter and guitarist Lunn will perform an acoustic solo set, featuring some hits from the band as well as his own material.

Sound and Light will take place on Friday, February 28 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 for under 19s or £8 for over 19s.
