LAVERSTOCK Sports and Social Club played host to some fine music on Saturday night, with performances by Salisbury favourites the Kings of Lounge and the Rhythm Blasters.

The Kings and the Blasters have been friends for many years, but this was their first gig together.

Kings of Lounge opened the evening, easing in gently with some mellow ballads.

Cry Me A River was especially lovely, with the laidback instrumentals providing the perfect complement to Caroline Presley's expressive singing.

The Rhythm Blasters raised the tempo a bit for their first set.

Dave Taylor had to do most of the singing as Malc Wilkinson had mislaid his voice. They built a good groove, as always, and soon had people up and dancing.

The Kings opened their second set with an impressive instrumental cover of Love's classic Alone Again Or, then upped the pace with some lively songs.

The Blasters returned, with bassist Laura Bell and drummer Keith Evans laying down a rock-solid beat. Despite Malc's voice having left the building completely, they continued to rock and kept people dancing, with an impressive display of jiving from the audience.

They finished the evening with a storming version of Roadrunner.
