THE Winchester Gate hosted the first 100% Attitude gig on Friday, March 14.
London-based threesome Abjects were the main attraction, with an acoustic set from Luke Hall and Alone in Your Crowd kicking things off.
Alone in Your Crowd are another three-piece, playing Green Day-style punk.
The drums were perhaps a bit too loud, drowning out the vocals in places, but for three young lads, they were confident and have a decent set of songs to perform.
In a larger venue, with a bigger following, they could go places.
Hall is a great showman, interacting with the growing crowd and banging out some great songs. It made for a good balance in the middle of the two bands.
Abjects are an all-girl band made up of Spain’s Noemi on guitars and vocals, Yuki from Japan on bass, and Alice from Italy on drums.
They met in London when working in a pub and decided to form a band.
And, luckily for us, it worked; despite the differences in culture and language, they are a tight, talented group and hopefully we will see them again.
Their blend of psychedelic garage pop was performed with gusto and really enjoyed by the appreciative audience.
They began with a track called Delay and went on to do a further eight tunes (all with very short titles; unsure why).
Called back for an encore, they belted out a spiky cover of cult 60s girl group tune What A Way To Die – a fantastic and thrilling finale.
These girls really rocked the Winnie Gate and were an inspired choice by the organisers.
More of the same please.
