ST LAURENCE’S Church plays host to the Downton Festival this weekend.

On Friday, the Farrant Singers will present a concert covering five centuries of choral classics. Music by Lambe, Mouton, Pitoni, Tallis and Philips will be included in the programme along with an Irish Corner by Wood and Stanford.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced at £10, including a glass of wine or other refreshment, are available on the door.

The festival continues on Saturday at 7.30pm when author Andrew Taylor, shortlisted for the 2014 Duff Cooper prize for non-fiction work by a British author, will be talking about the process of autobiographical writing. And it concludes on Sunday afternoon when five local choirs will come together to rehearse two pieces especially arranged for them by local musician Peter Jarvis and to sing some of their own repertoire.

The free, informal concert will begin at 4pm.

Individual singers are welcome to join in the rehearsal at 2pm.
