BANK Holiday weekend was a veritable feast for Salisbury’s music lovers and musicians alike, writes John Palmer.

Locally-based Isobel Thatcher, solo guitarist, who is currently playing gigs all over the south, performed at Salisbury Arts Centre's Live Lunch.

The next Live Lunch is scheduled for Sunday, September 7 when singer-songwriter Drew Allen will be performing. Admission is free with the music running from midday to 2pm.

Skynflynt were more than generous with their stylish rock classics at The Anchor and Hope on Saturday night pulling in a large and lively crowd – it was good to see a decent crowd there enjoying the vibe.

Meanwhile, over at Winchester Gate, Carpet went down really well with the regulars solidly supported by Oak.

Carpet is the latest project of keyboard maestro Simon Birch in collaboration with guitarist Darren Blake. They describe their music as based on ambient ‘krautrock’ with a bit of room for improvisation. Saturday night's show was a warm-up for their impending appearance at Rest Festival this weekend in Coombe Bissett. On this showing they won’t be getting much time to rest at that event.
