YOUNG musicians will be performing classics from The Great American Songbook at Salisbury Playhouse when the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) visits on Wednesday, October 8.

Founded by Bill Ashton OBE in 1965, NYJO is world-famous as a showcase for the country’s best young musicians.

Many of the current generation of top British jazz musicians have risen through its ranks, often becoming established jazz stars whilst still playing with the band.

Sean Corby, NYJO Orchestra and academy manager, said: “Under the tutelage of artistic director Mark Armstrong, NYJO has gone from strength to strength, repositioning itself as an invigorated ensemble and institution and ready to nurture the next generation of aspiring UK jazzers.”
