Sarah Brightman looks set to become the first recording artist in space.

The British singer is thought to have forked out £31 million for the journey and a 10-day stay at the International Space Station, reported the Daily Mirror.

Sarah, 54, has already completed several tests and will start her official training in Moscow in January with a planned launch date of October 4, 2015.

Yuri Lonchakov, head of Russia's Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre, said: "She will begin training at Star City in January 2015 and we are all waiting for her.

"I believe her training will be successful."

Sarah's space trip, which has been in the pipeline for over two years, will make her one of a very small group of privately funded space tourists.

When it was first announced, the soprano said at a news conference: "This voyage is a product of a dream, my dream. Finally it can be a reality.

"I am more excited about this than anything I have done in my life to date."

While the cost of the voyage is under wraps, sources have indicated it is in the region of £31 million.

It's thought Sarah might be planning to be the first star to sing in space.

However, she might have competition from Lady Gaga as it has previously been reported that she too wants to head into orbit to perform, and that she might do so as part of the Zero G Colony tech festival in 2015.

Several other celebrities are thought to have signed up for Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic flights, including Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher, Russell Brand and Leonardo DiCaprio.
