Younger councillors needed in Amesbury

I WONDER how many Amesbury residents are aware that the majority of Amesbury town councillors are over 60 years of age.

Amesbury needs younger people than these to take Amesbury forward into the future; people with energy and ideas to turn the place into a thriving town.

In early May local elections for the town council will take place so now is the time for residents to find out what is involved in being a town councillor.

The council is aware of the age problem and is therefore holding open days, with one being held tonight at Antrobus House from 3pm to 7pm, when councillors will be available to talk about their work to any interested person.

I hope that as many people as possible will attend these days and put their names down for election as councillors in May.

As for me, I will not be standing for election because I am older than most, if not all, of the current members of Amesbury Town Council.

OV HOLMES, Amesbury Resident
