Make square a source of pride

First published in Letters

I WRITE regarding the refurbished market square.

Yes, it's no longer a car park, for all to use, but it might just well be considering the mess it looks.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is the twice weekly market - bringing in trade for the city.

However, it also brings vans and trucks into the square.

The vehicles then leave large deposits of oil on the newly laid stones, which are from China - brought over at council tax payers’ expense.

The council should be ashamed to have spent so much money on the project, only to see it covered with oil and grime.

Salisbury is a tourist city, welcoming visitors from Europe, China, Japan and many other countries around the world.

There are many bars and cafés expanding in the square; they don't want to see oil over the new stones.

So come on Salisbury and Wiltshire councils.

Clean up this mess and make the square a place to be proud of.

Every morning after a Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights drunken revelry
the council roadsweepers and water bowsers are out in force to clear up the vomit, urine, blood and junk food wrappers. Don't see why they can't do the same after each Market packs up.
