Finance for difficult pupils

I SEE that Wiltshire Council is closing the John Ivie Centre (Journal, January 26). Schools will now “shoulder responsibility” for previously excluded pupils and the £2.7million saving will be shared amongst all secondary schools including academies, which will then decide how to use the money.

Does this mean that academies will get money from both central and local government in respect of disaffected and challenging pupils? If so I can easily understand one strong financial reason why a school might hope to become an academy.
