Scam warning
7:00am Thursday 24th January 2013 in Postbag
A little warning to internet users. Because of my many years in the CAB, I was not taken in by a possible fraud that was attempted on a perfectly legitimate blog that I use at blog.co.uk.
First, I was told that a ‘bot’ attacked my blog, causing it to be blocked. Then – and this was a big no-no – I was asked for bank details.
I want to warn people to never, never give bank details over the internet unless you are absolutely sure of the reputation and legitimacy of the organisation to which you are entrusting the information.
I reported the matter to both the police and Action Fraud. Neither of those organisations will mind in the least if the matter proves to be nothing – but you will mind a great deal if you lose money.
