People worked hard to clear snow from our streets

RECENT letters in the Journal have been critical of the efforts made to clear the roads and pavements after the snowfall. Our experience has been very different. A mini snow plough went up and down our residential street and made it safe for traffic.

Not all householders had cleared the pavements outside their houses so pedestrians quickly turned the surfaces into hard packed snow and ice.

The patches of cleared pavement were gritted and were safe to walk on. Other areas were dangerous and pedestrians walked on the road to avoid them.

Tribute should be paid to the hard working people who kept main roads and many residential streets safe and who did what they could for pavements.

Instead of carping, we would do well to assist their efforts by clearing our own stretch of pavement.
