£300k QE Gardens project 'unnecessary'

WE are told that the cost of the £300,000 ‘refurbishment’ of Queen Elizabeth Gardens in Salisbury was ring-fenced and could be spent on nothing else.

Everyone hereabouts reckons it was not necessary; the gardens were much enjoyed by hundreds of people as they were.

Could I please have a reply as to whether the council would consider by way of contrition reducing the size of our council tax, so as to avoid such an absurd situation occurring again?

I really do challenge the council for a comment please.

A much fairer way of addressing the local precept council tax levied by Parish Councils (which Salisbury City Council is one locally), is to have other adjacent residents to the city paying just a little more towards projects which the SCC try to improve for the benefit of many who may not reside within the city parish boundary. The County Council cannot be expected to oversee all projects as they even now are 'bogged' down with the Market Square and the Maltings - all with some resistance to change. Projects here in South Wiltshire appear to be met with a very negative approach - yes a democratic decision is required, but if nothing was ever improved / repaired / built and then more wider uses could never take place. Also no work being carried out = nil jobs for people and leaving to a later day could on some projects add to the costs! When the Rt Revd's church requires repairs just hope we have the skills locally to achieve the standard needed. The elections for Wiltshire Unitary and the Salisbury City are in May this year, so please could one or two of the " many hearabouts" place their name on the ballot form. They have a great contribution to make and could then ensure funds are used or not used wisely! Perhaps we should not budget to cut the grass in Elizabeth Gardens, just request volunteers to do the work all led by the Reverend!
