Normal access to Stonehenge is open

WHATEVER one’s views are on the new Stonehenge Visitor Centre, Diana Mead’s guests and other walkers will still be able to get to Stonehenge as they do now (Postbag, February 7).

Through negotiation with English Heritage by representatives of cycling and walking organisations, access has been secured at all times for people wishing to walk or cycle to the Stones using the bridleways and footpaths.

The A345 route, after grassing over, will be available for walkers and cyclists to access from Stonehenge Bottom or byways 11 and 12, which pass through open access land of the National Trust estate.

Walkers and cyclists may choose to pay to visit the centre and ride on the land train to the Stones, but it will be open to them to walk or cycle.
