Close residents' opposition
4:11pm Wednesday 20th February 2013 in Postbag
THE small but very vocal group of residents of The Close are once again voicing their opposition to the new plans to retain Arundells as a viable attraction for the city of Salisbury.
In the current difficult times, businesses in the city need all the help they can get to return to prosperous days, and the establishment of Arundells as a viable attraction would contribute to the wellbeing of all.
Visitors would spend money in many of the city’s businesses, protecting jobs and the overall vibrancy of the city economy.
The importance of tourism to the local economy cannot be over-emphasised.
It is a great shame that a small but vocal group of the very privileged people who live in one of England’s finest locations cannot support the plans currently put forward by Peter Batey, former private secretary to Sir Edward Heath as well as Sir Edward’s close friend, and now a successful businessman.
Sadly, former MP Robert Key is also speaking out against the plans.
Come along, Close residents and Mr Key. Put self-interest to one side and consider the rest of us and the future of our wonderful city.
STEVIE PAUL, Quidhampton
