Common sense should prevail over vascular unit

I AM dismayed and saddened at the prospect of no vascular unit at Salisbury District Hospital (Journal, February 7) as my father, Professor Hugh Glanville, who started the Rehabilitation Unit at Odstock, would have been.

Shortly before his death, he was greatly impressed with the excellent treatment my elderly mother received there, and there is no doubt in my mind that if she had had to journey to Bournemouth, Bristol or Cirencester, she would almost certainly have died.

I do hope that common sense will prevail and that the people making these decisions are prepared to take the consequences if fatalities occur as a result of this ludicrous suggestion.

FELICITY GLANVILLE, Salisbury
