Bus stop site is senseless
4:19pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in Postbag
I WAS shocked to receive a letter from Wiltshire Council outlining proposals for more bus stops in Salisbury following the closure of the bus station.
It intends to install two further bus stops in Endless Street, one of which will be directly outside of the Royal British Legion Club’s main door and fire exit.
As many of our members are disabled exservicemen and women who need either walking aids or electric chairs to get around, it will be very difficult for them to gain entrance to the club through what could be a large bus queue.
Also we have, on occasions, private functions in the club and as a result can have some 200 people present.
Should a fire occur, all of them would have to leave the building via the fire doors directly into a bus queue.
The resulting chaos involved would be a disaster.
It would appear that Wiltshire Council has made these plans without any thought of the location.
Perhaps councillors should visit the site of these new bus stops and make different arrangements.
