Where have the swans gone?
3:43pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Postbag
WHEN my wife and I moved to Salisbury about four years ago, we took great pleasure in watching the many swans and ducks in the River Avon on our walks down to the centre of the city.
There were always 20 or more swans, mostly in the Maltings area where they would be fed on scraps many visitors used to give them.
They would often venture upstream to the Waitrose level for more scraps, as well as riverbed feeding.
Sadly, this year we have only seen two adult swans with their five cygnets, and sometimes a lone adult swan.
So what has happened to all the other swans?
I fear the worst.
