THE front page headline ‘500 homes plan’ (Journal, April 17) provides just one more reason why communities across Wiltshire need to become involved in developing their own formal Neighbourhood Plan.
These plans will not stop development, but can be used to guide and inform developers and planners on what sort of houses are needed, where they should be, what infrastructure is needed and how the development can be more sustainable.
Without Neighbourhood Plans these matters will be determined by the builders, planners in Trowbridge or even Eric Pickles in London.
The parish of Downton, Charlton and Wick is now heavily involved in its plan because we are helping to inform Wiltshire’s already existing commitment to at least an additional 190 homes planned for the area.
We are not leaving it entirely to others to decide the future of our community.
