All steamed up at Breamore

ENGINE enthusiasts from across the South West descended on Breamore for a steam rally on Sunday.

More than 50 miniature engines, vintage vehicles and old fire engines were given the run of the grounds at Breamore Countryside Museum, north of Fordingbridge, for the annual event.

Engine buffs from as far afield as Berkshire and the Isle of Wight brought in their prize pieces to give hundreds of visitors the chance to step back into time.

The event has become permanent fixture in the social calendar and public interest shows no sign of running out of steam.

But for those not wholly obsessed by steam were treated to the magnificent Manor House set above the picturesque village of Breamore, overlooking the Avon Valley.

The House was completed in 1583 by the Dodington family, five years prior to the Spanish Armada.

It was purchased in the early 18th century by Sir Edward Hulse, Baronet, M.D.,F.R.C.P., Physician in Ordinary at the Court of Queen Anne, King George I and George II.

The House has been lived in for the past 250 years by his descendants and remains very much the family home of the Hulses.
