New hospital boss

By Gareth Bridge

THE new chief executive of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has been announced.

Matthew Kershaw (37) will take up the role on August 1.

He replaces Frank Harsent, who became chief executive of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on May 1.

The hospital's director of operations Peter Hill will be acting chief executive until Mr Kershaw takes up his post.

Currently chief operating officer at East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust, Mr Kershaw began his career working for the College of Health in London.

He moved to work as an administration assistant in general surgery and has worked his way up to hold a number of senior roles in hospitals across the south east.

Mr Kershaw, who was also the director of the National Orthopaedic Project, said: "I am extremely pleased to have been appointed as the new chief executive at the Trust and look forward to working with all of the staff and our partners, as we take the organisation to its next stage of development.

Salisbury has a very good reputation for the delivery of safe, high quality and efficient care. I will be focussing on leading the Trust as it continues with this, as well as addressing the challenges that exist and further developing services for all our patients."
