Campaign to put tap water on the menu
 |
| "Water quality in this area has never been better." |
WESSEX Water has launched its Turn on to Tap Water campaign in a bid to encourage restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels in its region to put tap water on the menu.
In light of recent reports highlighting the carbon footprint left by bottled water, Wessex Water has launched the Turn on the Tap campaign.
Many bottles of water are transported thousands of miles to get to Britain from countries including the United States, Japan and Fiji.
Now Wessex Water is calling on restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels in the region to get involved in the initiative.
Julian Dennis, director of compliance and sustainability, Wessex Water said: "We want to make it as easy as possible for local establishments to take part in this campaign.
"We will be supporting them with press adverts and marketing material which includes flyers, stickers and window transfers.
"Simple things like actually adding tap water to their menus gives consumers a choice and makes ordering tap water easy. Water quality in this area has never been better and is among the best in the country."
Wessex Water supplies 360 million litres of water a day to 1.2 million customers.
Six million bottles of water are drunk in Britain every day. British consumers throw away ten billion bottles a year.
Business owners are being urged to log on to www.wessexwater.co.uk/turnon to sign up to the Turn on to Tap Water campaign.
All participants will receive a free marketing pack, which includes flyers, stickers and window transfers. Wessex Water will also keep Turn on to Tap Water members up to date with campaign news and list them as a participating establishment on their website.

About time too! I'm fed up with being ripped off for a small bottle of water in restaurants(and especially places where there's no option such as airports.)I used to be too shy (embarrassed) to ask for tap water. But not now!Another thing. It'll save on all those plastic(and glass) bottles.
