City make a splash

SALISBURY City have attempted to plug their recent costly water error thanks to new commercial director Andrew Rhind-Tutt.

The club was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £1,392 costs by Salisbury magistrates last month after pleading guilty to using triple the amount of water it was entitled to.

The case was brought following a routine inspection by the Environment Agency in July 2007.

The offence occurred before Rhind-Tutt's involvement with the club, but it was an issue he wished to resolve instantly as the Whites prepare for their second season in the Blue Square Premier.

Having spoken with City's drinks provider Coors, as well as representatives from Britvic Soft Drinks and Abbey Well Natural Mineral Water, the new director has made quite a splash by completing a mouth-watering deal.

Abbey Well will become the Whites' first water sponsor and will be donating all of the club's bottled water requirements for the 2008/09 season, while Britvic are to become match sponsors for the players' refreshments and provide its sports drink Gatorade throughout the forthcoming campaign.

"Both companies listened to our plight and appreciated that we had made a genuine error, which took precious funds from the club," explained Rhind-Tutt.

"I highlighted our need to give Nick and the boys all the help we can to enable them to continue their successful path to top-flight football and how fines such as this didn't help."

The deal certainly had first team boss Nick Holmes licking his lips.

He said: "Gatorade, being one of the most respected sports drinks on the market, will be a great help to us. With the competitive nature of our league, any help to give us an edge over the opposition is gratefully accepted."
