Work to highlight drugs issues
THIS week is National Tackling Drugs Week and the work of those involved with tackling drug issues in Wiltshire and how the problem is being addressed are being highlighted.
Events and initiatives have been organised to increase awareness and public confidence in the work being done locally to respond to local drug priorities and to showcase the wide-ranging activities and services available.
This involves partnership working by agencies within Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) and Drugs and Alcohol Action Teams (DAATs) in the county.
The project is being supported by criminal justice agencies and their key partners from the Wiltshire Community & Drugs Partnership, including the Police, the Probation Service, Wiltshire County Council, the Youth Offending Service, Wiltshire Primary Care Trust, drug advisory services and volunteers.
Local schools will also be involved with work to address drug-related issues, while there will be displays and information about the initiative at county hall in Trowbridge, as well as libraries and community centres.
The project is being coordinated by the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board (WCJB), which is responsible for the running of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) in the county, and the Community Safety & Drugs Team.
