Holmes happy with friendly win

MANAGER Nick Holmes declared himself happy with his side's performance in their final pre-season friendly.

Whites beat a Bristol Rovers XI 3-1 last night thanks to goals by Matt Tubbs, Andy Sandell and Robbie Matthews.

Holmes said: "I thought we played very well. We scored goals and created plenty of chances too.

"I know the opposition wasn't as strong as their first team, but it was still a good Bristol Rovers reserve team and it served a purpose for us."

The City boss was also pleased that midfielder Mike Fowler finally got some minutes under his belt.

Although unable to play in City's first two league games due to suspension, Fowler has missed much of the pre-season schedule through injury.

"Mike just played the second half but he got through it comfortably," added Holmes, who admitted he was closing in on what his starting line up for Saturday's home game with Burton Albion will be.

"I've got a good idea," he said. "I've got it down to a 13 really, but we'll see on Saturday."
