Eco-plan park moves a step closer
4:04pm Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in News
PROPOSALS to build an eco park in Wilton could be a step closer as a community association is set to put in a bid for the town’s former UKLF site.
The MoD has put Erskine Barracks on the market with bids due in by the end of this year.
Wilton Community Land Trust (CLT) has partnered social enterprise development company OurEnterprise to put in a community led bid for the entire site in a move that aims to secure a sustainable and locally focused scheme. The CLT was set up earlier in the year to help promote green projects in the area and membership is open to everyone living and working in the Wilton area.
Matthew Bell, founder of OurEnterprise, said: “Funds are in place to deliver a robust financial offer to the MoD but also deliver unparalleled benefits to the community. This bid will be a real test for the government on how much they really want Localism and The Big Society to take off. I would urge everyone in Wilton to join the Wilton Community Land Trust and be a part of this exciting vision.”
Yesterday, the CLT opened a shop in West Street, Wilton, for people to find out more about the scheme.
It will be open for the next four months on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
