New chairman for Meeting House

THE new chairman of Ringwood’s most historic building says he feels “humbled” to be appointed to the role.
Dennis Whitfield from Ringwood has taken the helm of the Ringwood Meeting House Association.
The Presbyterian Meeting House was built in 1727 and is thought to be the most complete example of an 18th century building in the country.
Mr Whitfield said: “I am very humbled and very excited to be honoured with the role of chairman.
I am more than aware that I have some very big shoes to fill as the former chairman, John Waddington, has achieved a tremendous amount over the last decade.”
The Meeting House underwent a £513,000 restoration last year which also created a history centre.
The old chapel is run by Ringwood Meeting House Association trustees, who have ensured the retention of all original features while also making sure it complies with 21st century standards.
A computerised archive of photographs is also being gradually compiled, which enables visitors to research Ringwood’s history and a new website will make it easier to find out more about the centre.
Mr Whitfield added: “I cannot emphasise enough the hard work and dedication of the trustees to transform the Meeting House into what it is today. I have a great team of trustees behind me.”
A Remembrance Exhibition is being held from October 29 until November 10.
La Nova Singers will also be raising money for Children in Need from 11am on November 17. The Meeting House and History Centre is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to noon and to 2.30pm on Wednesdays. Entrance is 70p including a cup of coffee or tea.
