Thieves break into car

THIEVES with light Fingers who smashed a window on a new car parked in a Forest beauty spot may have thought they were jammy dodgers.

But what they found in the bag they looted was not so Nice – it was filled with biscuits.

The incident, between 2.30pm and 3pm on Sunday at Holmsley car park, saw the nearside front passenger window of a graphite-coloured, 12 plate Ford Mondeo estate smashed.

The thieves took a Route 66 tapestry- style shopping bag from the vehicle, which belonged to visitors who had come to walk in the Forest. Sadly for them the bag only contained various types of biscuit.

Inspector Simon Tribe said: “This is the type of criminal mastermind we often have to deal with. They are usually known offenders.

“We haven’t seen so much of this type of crime recently as we have had a relatively successful summer driving down vehicle crime. But in autumn we often see an increase as there are fewer people in the car parks, giving thieves more opportunity to break into vehicles.”
