Scouting returns to Ludgershall

First published in News by

A NEW Scout group based in Ludgershall will mark the return of Scouting to the town for the first time since the 1990s. Based at the Ludgershall Memorial Hall, it will be known as the 5th Wiltshire B-P Scout Group and provide traditional Scouting in Ludgershall, Tidworth, Collingbourne and the surrounding areas.

Vacancies exist for young people from age six to 18 to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor and adventure activities including camping, hill walking, archery, woodcraft, climbing, craft, performance and first aid.

The group, which starts on November 19, will offer Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Senior Scout sections.

Scoutmaster Colin Stevens said: "Since we first looked into the need for Scouting in the local area we were overwhelmed by the level of interest and support shown by the townspeople.

“We now have a fantastic home in the heart of the town with easy access to lots of outdoor space and have a full and busy calendar of events planned ranging from a Baden-Powell birthday bash to a festive fantasia.

"A key part of what our Group offers is Scouting for all ages all based in one location. “Parents and teenagers can walk or cycle to their section night without the constant need to drive, making it easier and affordable for everyone to take part."

Any adults who would like to help out with special skills or by becoming a uniformed leader are welcome. A special bursary scheme is run by the Baden-Powell Scouts’ Association to help fund adults through recognised coaching qualifications.

Section nights will be as follows: Mondays (Cubs) 6pm to 7.30pm, Tuesdays (Beavers) 5.30pm to 7pm, Thursdays (Scouts and Senior Scouts) 7pm to 9pm.

To register interest for a place in the new group, parents can contact the group via the website 5thWiltshire.com, or by visiting on any section night.
