Community safety event in Downton
11:13am Friday 9th November 2012 in News By Morwenna Blake
AN event to highlight how organisations and voluntary groups are working together to keep the local community safe is being held in Downton on Saturday, November 17.
The special community safety event is part of the Southern Wiltshire Area Board’s community safety theme, which looks to promote local community-based initiatives, and has been organised by Downton Parish Council.
People can find out more about the Lorry Watch, Speedwatch and Neighourhood Watch schemes. They can find out about Horsewatch and Farm Watch, book a home fire safety check and learn how to use Downton’s new public access defibrillators. The event will also showcase services provided by Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and Wiltshire Council trading standards.
Children attending will also get the chance to climb aboard a fire engine and get behind the wheel of a police car.
Chris Hall, chairman of Downton Parish Council, said: “It promises to be a fun and very informative event. People can find out about practical things the community can do to help keep it safe.”
The community safety event will be held from 10.30am to 3.30pm at the Downton Memorial Hall.
