THE Bishop of Salisbury Nicholas Holtam has welcomed the news that the Bishop of Durham, Justin Welby, is to be the next Archbishop of Canterbury.
Bishop Holtam pledged the prayerful support of his whole Diocese following Friday’s announcement from 10 Downing Street.
“I welcome the appointment of Justin Welby to the See of Canterbury and look forward to working with him and supporting him in that role,” he said. “The Diocese of Salisbury will be praying for him and his family as he prepares to take up this very significant commitment.”
The Bishop added that the parishes in his Diocese would also be praying for Archbishop Rowan Williams as he presides soon over his last meeting of the General Synod of the Church of England.
