A GROUP of Cub Scouts from the 8th Salisbury pack organised and took part in a walk to honour the memory of a Scout leader who died earlier this year.

Ten youngsters designed an eight-mile route to test their map-reading skills while raising money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Dene Turner.

They led sixty other youngsters, aged seven to 10, from packs across the district on the circular route starting in Winterslow and taking in Farley, Bentley Woods and East Grimstead.

Dene's wife Beverly who leads the Cub Scouts said: “Dene loved the great outdoors, never turning down an opportunity to pass on knowledge through practical exercise, teaching the youngsters map reading, hiking and fire lighting skills as well as many useful tips about camping and enjoying the countryside.”

The day raised £656 which will be split between the British Heart Foundation and 8th Salisbury Scout Group.
