A CHARITY is urging people to sign up now for its flagship fundraising event next year to take advantage of discounted entry fees.

Naomi House Children’s Hospice’s Clarendon Way Walk, a 12 or 26-mile walk between Winchester and Salisbury cathedrals, has been set for June 2 next year.

Walkers can sign up for £10 per adult or £7.50 for under 18s until December 31, and registering early also gives people a chance to get ahead with training and fundraising.

Naomi House and jacksplace, near Winchester, are hospices offering a 24/7 service for families in Wiltshire and Hampshire.

Bev Campbell was the first person to sign up for next year’s event, which will be her sixth Clarendon Way Walk. Her daughter Bonnie, 18, has been going to Naomi House for eight years.

Bonnie was born with complex medical conditions and now needs constant care to ensure she is comfortable and breathing properly, especially at night. Naomi House looks after her to allow Bev a short respite break and a good night’s sleep.

She said: “I see completing the walk as a way of thanking the hospital for all the love, care and help that we have received over the years.”

The 2012 walk raised more than £100,000 and the charity hopes next year will be even better. Event fundraiser Felicity Patterson said: “It is such a great event for all involved and the money it raises is an invaluable contribution to the £5million required to keep Naomi House and jacksplace running each year.”

Keith Wilson, Naomi House’s communications officer, completed the 26-mile walk earlier this year. “It turns out that 26 miles is quite a long way and it was definitely a challenge, but the camaraderie and positivity of your fellow walkers keeps you going, mile after mile. It is a great event and a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to taking part again next year.”
