Boy Bishop Peter Folkes with Bishop Nicholas Holtam
A NEW Boy Bishop will take on the role at a ceremony to be held at Salisbury Cathedral.
Peter Folkes, 12, who is head chorister at the cathedral, will be installed at Evensong on December 9.
Bishop Nicholas Holtam will present his ring and staff to Peter, who is head chorister at the cathedral, before the new Boy Bishop leads the prayers, blesses the congregation and delivers the sermon.
The service is also an acknowledgement of the important part the boy choristers play in the cathedral’s musical life. Canon Precentor, Tom Clammer, says “This ceremony is moving and joyful at the same time and, just as Christmas approaches, says important things to us about the way in which authority and humility work among Christ’s people, as well as celebrating the dedication of our wonderful choir.”
All are welcome to attend the service.
