A CRAZY hair day was just one of the ideas children at Godolphin School in Salisbury came up with to raise funds to help save wildlife.

Over the last school year, Fiona Jackson’s class organised a series of fundraising events including a crazy hair day where they all wore brightly coloured ribbons and baubles in their hair. Friends and family spurred them on in their sponsored swim and enjoyed a cake sale, a book sale, and the singing of Christmas carols at the Old George Mall.

Their efforts raised for £1,400 for HART Wildlife Rescue and the girls presented the charity with a cheque. Jackie Grey, a volunteer with the charity, told the children and parents how important the donation would be to the dozens of hedgehogs currently being treated at the hospital.

“We have 75 hedgehogs currently being treated at the hospital and 37 have been admitted since the beginning of the month already,” she said. “This money will help to ensure they all have plenty of food over the winter and are well looked after until they can be released next spring.

“We are very grateful to the girls for adopting us as their charity for the year and to all those who helped them raise this enormous amount of money.”
