A PLANNING appeal for a two-bedroom bungalow in Alderbury has been turned down because of issues over contributions to fund public open spaces and affordable housing.

Harvey Euridge was refused planning permission at The Heather on Southampton Road by Wiltshire Council because members thought the development would harm the character and appearance of the area.

The site is part of the garden of a bungalow that was demolished and redeveloped as three detached houses and Mr Euridge has been granted planning permission to develop another property in the area.

Planning inspector Edward Grace said he did not agree with the council’s grounds for refusal but turned down the appeal because no legal agreement had yet been reached between the applicant and the council with regard to the financial contribution towards public open spaces and affordable housing required by law.

He said that despite Mr Euridge’s indication of his willingness to make payments, the council had failed to identify particular projects to which a contribution would be made.
