CHRISTMAS trees in an array of colours, shapes, sizes and materials are on display at St Thomas’s Church in Salisbury.

The church is holding its annual Christmas tree festival and up to 8,000 people are expected to admire the creativity of local schools, community groups, charities and churches, which have produced more than 100 decorated trees.

Some trees make political statements, while others are humorous, reflect recent events or celebrate achievements.

Many of the decorations have been handmade and several trees are beautifully lit.

This is the eighth year the church has held the festival, which is free to visit, although donations are welcome to be shared between the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, Epilespy Action and the church.

Each day of the festival there will be a programme of live music including school choirs, soloists, a barber shop group and classical musicians.

St Thomas’s is also holding its Carols for Busy People service on Tuesday, December 18 at 1.10pm.

The Christmas tree festival runs from 10am to 6pm until Saturday and from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday.
