A POPULAR Amesbury doctor is retiring after 25 years as a GP in the town.
Dr Fionee Collins, 58, says she has many fond memories of her time working at the Barcroft Medical Practice. After qualifying as a doctor at the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1979, Dr Collins worked in the Salisbury area before becoming a GP in Amesbury in 1987.
“It’s been a wonderful place to work,” she said. “It’s been lovely to get to know the patients so well and see families grow up.
“I’ve enjoyed everything about being a family doctor and loved almost every minute.
“I have lots of fond memories.”
After beginning her early retirement next Monday, Dr Collins plans to spend more time with her family, including her husband Ian, who served as a lieutenant colonel in the army before he retired.
She also plans to devote more time to her hobbies, ballroom dancing, cycling and keep fit.
Dr Collins enjoyed a retirement party with colleagues from the practice at The Swan at Stoford on Friday.
