A FOOD and festive goods collection was held in Amesbury last weekend to help those struggling at Christmas.

Staff, volunteers and customers from Amesbury Tesco, Spurgeons’ Five Wishes, Amesbury and Bulford children’s centres, the Trussell Trust and the Army Welfare Service worked together to help make a difference.

The goods were packed into an army lorry and delivered to the Trussell Trust, where volunteers are now preparing food boxes and Christmas hampers to be distributed to families in the Amesbury area.

At the end of the three-day collection, the amount of goods donated weighed in at 1.87 tonnes.

Andrea Gray, children’s centres lead, said: “Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who kindly gave; it was deeply touching how many people donated, making such a difference at Christmas time to local families.”
