THERE are still some Christmas trees for sale at Avon Heath following a volunteer event on Sunday.
The Scot’s pines are about half the price of other trees available at the Discovery Centre daily between 11am and 4pm.
The trees were among other invasive plants removed from heathland by 180 volunteers during a volunteer day.
They were able to take the pines home as Christmas Trees, but some were left over.
Those attending also enjoyed a huge bonfire, hot drinks provided by Little Chef and mince pies donated by Morrisons.
The heathland is internationally important and removing invasive species such as the Scot's pines allows the land to flourish, providing the perfect habitat for rare reptiles, insects and plants.
A spokesman for the park said: “The trees may not be as perfect as those sold elsewhere, but they have a certain charm, don't drop their needles and are about half the price.”
Other volunteering tasks will be taking place at Avon Heath Country Park on the second Sunday of every month and every other Thursday throughout the winter.
