WILTSHIRE’S Volunteer Centre is looking for more people to get involved in helping others this year.

The centre is enrolling volunteer mentors onto their mentor supported volunteering programme, which supports people with additional needs who would like to volunteer but have experienced difficulties in doing so.

Volunteer Centre Wiltshire’s mentoring service matches volunteer mentors with people who have additional needs such as physical or learning disabilities.

They also support those with sensory impairments, people who have been unemployed for six months or more, older people (over 65s) and young people aged 18 to 24 who might not normally consider taking up a voluntary role. Simone Lord, Manager of Volunteer Centre Wiltshire said "The Mentor Supported Volunteering service has opened up volunteering to more people than ever before in the County.

“We are excited to continue building a team of highly dedicated and professional volunteer mentors for Wiltshire."

The mentors provide flexible support, including helping to find volunteering opportunities in the local area, support to contact organisations, informal advocacy and dealing with any issues or questions.

They also give guidance from completing application forms through to interview preparation. The role provides support, encouragement and confidence building to the person being mentored.

Those who would like to find out more can go along to a coffee and chat session being held at Wessex Community Action, Salt Lane, Salisbury on Monday, January 21 from 11am to 2pm.
