BBC concert at the cathedral
SALISBURY Cathedral was filled to capacity for the annual BBC Wiltshire Carol Service led by Salisbury Cathedral Choir, Salisbury Cathedral Junior Choir, the Band of the Prince of Wales's Division, and John Challenger on the organ.
The event was introduced by Canon Tom Clammer, the precentor, and the readers were BBC Wiltshire’s presenters Lee Stone, Graham Seaman, Sue Davies, Ben Prater and Graham Rogers, plus BBC TV South Today presenter Sally Taylor. There was plenty of opportunity for the congregation to take part with six well-loved carols to sing.
Cathedral spokesman David Coulthard said: “The BBC Wiltshire Carols Service has become a familiar event but nevertheless the atmosphere is always very special. “We enjoy welcoming so many people from right across Wiltshire and it is so important that we get the opportunity via the radio broadcasts of the service to reach out to many thousands more.”
There was a retiring collection in aid of Christian Aid.
The concert will be broadcast on Christmas Eve at 6pm and on Christmas Day at 10am.
