THEIR frocks are florid and they turn fairytales into farce but every panto needs a simply fabulous dame.

And in Verwood it’s Richard McPherson who is the man underneath Dotty Dimple’s bloomers.

Richard joined Verwood Pantomime Society last year, when he was cast as the lion in the Wizard of Oz, and now he has been cast as Dotty the panto dame, and he is loving every minute of it.

Already Dotty has shot to fame after appearing on BBC1’s One Show switching on the Christmas Tree lights in Poole.

Yet this seems like a far cry for the macho man who is a motorbike instructor by day and a glammed up pantomime puss by night.

He said: “I was born for this role. I love it. I love camping it up and being over the top. It is the best fun.

“The costumes are just amazing. It is so funny really because I am a biker during the day and a pantomime dame in the evenings, wearing dresses and wigs and all that.”

Verwood Pantomime Society is performing Jack and the Beanstalk at the Hub between January 19 and 26.

The shows are on Saturday 19 and 26 at 2pm and 6.30pm and on January 23, 24 and 25 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available by calling the Hub’s box office on 01202 828740.
